CHICAGO, Feb. 8 -- Kia Motors America (KMA) debuted its all-new crossover vehicle, the 2007 Kia Rondo, at the Los Angeles Auto Show just last November and has wasted no time enhancing its "Exciting and Enabling" brand direction with the Chicago International Auto Show introduction of the Rondo SX Concept. Already a capable vehicle -- Rondo is based on the current-generation Kia Optima platform -- the SX concept elevates the crossover to new heights by showing that practicality doesn't mean excitement is sacrificed. "We have positioned the all-new 2007 Rondo as a vehicle of function and versatility," said Len Hunt, executive vice president and COO of KMA. "The Rondo SX Concept is proof that smart, spacious vehicles don't need to be boring, and that consumers can still be passionate about a daily driver." The Rondo SX Concept is finished in a sophisticated four-stage metallic gray exterior color and reinforces its sporty theme with cues from current Kia SX-trimmed vehicles like the Rio and Spectra models, which include more aggressive front and rear fascias, sportier grille inserts and other exciting exterior details.

Diesel Oxidation Catalyst for the Locomotive
July 23, 2007- Newberg, Oregon Harco Manufacturing Co. a leading fabricator of premium Engine Exhaust Silencers and Emission Control products announced today the development of a Diesel Oxidation Catalyst package for the Locomotive market. In partnership with Motive Power Incorporated, a subsidiary of Wabtec Corporation (WAB) and Sud-Chemie, Inc., a producer of diesel oxidation catalysts, Harco Manufacturing has developed an Oxidation Catalyst Package that takes the place of the silencer and sits directly above the engine and is not visible from the exterior of the locomotive. Initial testing for the Harco Eliminator (TM) was done on an EMD 16-645 F3B engine using procedures as outlined in 40 CFR Part 92 Emission Standards for Locomotives and Locomotive Engines. Results of that testing: Harco Manufacturing is currently working to fill an order for Motive Power for 15 units to be installed on the MetroLink rail, with the first completed locomotive due for delivery at the end of August.

AHLEN, Germany — Edo Competition transformed its first Maserati MC12 last year as a one-off for a deep-pocketed Russian enthusiast. This time around, anyone with enough rubles can buy one of super tuner Edo Karabegovic's modified MC12 Corsas. Edo left the Maser's 6.0-liter V12 relatively untouched. That means customers still get an ample 755 horsepower and 546 pound-feet of torque, with 0-60 acceleration in less than 3.0 seconds. Most of the other underbody hardware, however, has been extensively reworked, starting with the suspension. Working with KW, Edo came up with adjustable shocks that provide decent ride quality at low speeds and optimal handling at extreme speeds. A ceramic/composite high-performance brake system has been fitted, along with black-painted forged wheels. Tires are 265/35ZR19 in front and 335/30ZR20 in the rear.
Child's death lands man year in jail
HUNTINGTON -- Prosecutors have no evidence that Anthony Milam killed a toddler in December 2005, but he will serve 12 months in jail for helping dispose of the child's body in the Ohio River. Hevin Dakota Jenkins, 2, died Dec. 15, 2005, at the hands of Milam's then-girlfriend Tonya Sloan, 29. She pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in June and is serving a maximum 40-year prison sentence. .

Summer heat index tops out at 119.2
The sun beats down on Miller Park early Friday morning as Roger Willis finishes mowing a baseball field. The air temperature is in the 80-degree range, but the humidity pushes the heat index to the mid-90s. After a week in which the heat index was stuck in the triple digits, Taylor County caught a break Friday. But that doesn't mean Park Director Bill Brewer and his crew have been resting on their laurels waiting for the cooler temperatures. "We start earlier and we finish earlier," Brewer said. "We take breaks more often and we drink more water." According to the National Weather Service, heat advisories are typically issued when the heat index is expected to be 105 degrees or higher. Actual temperature and humidity are combined to determine the heat index.
2007 Dodge Charger R/T Review
Oh the joy of a HEMI. Dodge's (and Chrysler's, of course) legendary engine still delivers the goods, more than 40 years after Dodge began dominating the muscle car ranks and NASCAR with it. Our tester is a Dodge Charger R/T (for Road/Track Group) with a 5.7-liter HEMI that pumps out a delicious 340 horses with 390 lb.-ft. of torque. As Dick Vitale would say, "This is an engine baby." Coupled with a smooth 5-speed automatic transmission and just enough exhaust noise to let everyone know you're coming, this is the modern equivalent of the muscle car. It even has a 70-era rise over the rear wheel arches to bring back memories of the good ol' days. We really had the opportunity to drive a couple of Chargers. One was the street version that sat in my driveway for a week.
