Routine Hood Cleaning Services Can Prevent Costly Fires in Restaurant Kitchens

APS-Hoods continues to find excessive grease build-up in restaurant kitchens as a main cause of restaurant fires. Their hood cleaning services can deter grease fires.

Denver, Colorado (PRWEB) August 12, 2007 -- The owner of a local fire suppression system company that also specializes in hood cleaning services recently discovered a disturbing trend at several restaurants.

Out of 20 restaurants and other facilities inspected or serviced by APS-Hoods in June and July, 12 of them had link lines in the fire suppression systems that were clogged with grease or systems that had been put together poorly or didn't meet current codes, said Massoud Farazandeh, chief executive officer of American Professional Systems (APS-Hoods).

UA Invests Energy Savings In Projects

Two construction projects at the University of Arkansas will be funded out of energy savings expected from them.

The university will see a $14 million upgrade of its steam plant, where three old boilers will be replaced with six smaller, gas-fired ones. Workers also will install a 1,000 ton heat pump and chiller and a new hot water loop in two sections of campus, which will serve 13 buildings previously heated by steam.

About $4 million will go toward replacing fume hoods at the university's Center of Excellence for Poultry Science. The new hoods will recover some exhaust for reuse and replace fluorescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs. LED lights and sensors also are being installed.

Officials say the steam plant project has a payback of 15 years and the poultry science center project has a payback of 11 years.

Fume Hoods pass 3-stage ANSI/ASHRAE test.

Featuring redesigned air plenum and directional air vanes, 90% Energy Efficient Fume Hoods create uniform, low-velocity air curtain that contains and carries away fumes inside hood to rear exhaust port. Supplemental air is not forced down and on to hood operator. Combined supplemental air and exhaust air form push-pull effect that requires minimal energy power consumption of conditioned room air while offering maximum protection to lab personnel from toxic fumes.
