| PCA: Hearing Aids For Cool People
When your vision starts to go, you can pick up a slick pair of glasses and still look hip. The same can't possibly be said about hearing aids, but these devices are aiming to change that perspective that most people have. Phonak Group of Switzerland has developed what they call Personal Communication Aids, which are basically hearing aids that look better than the big clunky things you see in retirement homes. Naturally, Phonak refuses to acknowledge that their PCAs, as they've come to be called, are "hearing aids", instead referring to them as the "Ultimate high-tech accessory." Instead of just amplifying the volume, the aids promise to enhance the quality of the sound as well. They've also separated the microphone from the speaker to prevent high-pitched squeals due to audio feedback. Priced from $1500 to $3500, the Phonak Personal Communication Aids weigh less than an ounce and measure fractions of an inch.
Auto thefts on Oahu decline 15 percent
Auto theft cases continue to drop on Oahu. As of June 30, thieves have stolen nearly 15 percent fewer cars this year than during the same period last year. Since 2002, when auto thefts zoomed to more than 8,400, the number of cars reported stolen has dropped 26 percent. Police caution that there are many variables that affect auto theft numbers, including when and if convicted auto thieves are released from prison. Police said officers target specific areas when auto theft reports spike. Police advise people to remain vigilant of who is in their neighborhood and what cars they are driving. .
GPS accessories
"We are importing this GPS enabled car accessory from Japan and will sell it at about Rs 27,000 in the Indian market. In the last five months, we have sold 35 units mainly to bankers and jewellers," said Mr Prashant Behiki of Skytech Multimedia Systems, who is a dealer and also sells many of the latest gizmos on the e-bay site. One of the products that has caught the consumer's fancy is the infrared night vision camera that provides the driver with a panoramic view in the rear mirror, he said. If the driver wants to use the mobile, the product comes with a bluetooth enabled seven-inch LCD screen that displays incoming call numbers, giving the user a chance to reject or take the call using the screen as an interface. Infrared cameras The infrared cameras with rear sensors are quite popular, said Mr Rohit Agarwal, an accessories supplier for Honda, Toyota, Mercedez-Benz and BMW cars.
Kensington ships FM transmitter, iPod mount
Kensington has unveiled a new FM transmitter (site not updated) designed to make driving while listening to music a little safer. The company's Auto Kit holds an iPod in a mount that attaches to a window or the dashboard, allowing drivers to select tracks without taking their eyes off the road. The accessory allows iPod owners to play their favorite tracks directly from the portable media player in the car through the existing stereo by broadcasting the audio a short distance to the vehicle's antenna. Music is transmitted over any available FM frequency as the Auto Kit charges an iPod via the vehicle's cigarette lighter. Kensington's Auto Kit is available for $120, and works with any dockable iPod model. .

It's nice to get an early lead like that, but it got a little too close for comfort at the end," Storm manager Carlos Lezcano said. "We need to be better in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings. That's been our thing all year. We have to be better if we want to win a championship." .
Charges Dropped Against Teens in Racially Charged Murder Case
TAYLOR, Mich. -- Charges have been dropped against two Black teenagers accused of killing a White mother of six. Police say ballistics tests show neither had a hand in shooting Wendy Meinke, who was killed July 30 during a dispute involving her son and others at an apartment complex in the Detroit suburb of Taylor. She tried to intervene, and two people shot in her direction. Taylor police later stopped a car carrying Devin Plummer, 17, and Franklin Smith, 18. Plummer was charged with first-degree murder and Smith with being an accessory for driving the car. The charges were dismissed after prosecutors received gun-residue tests Wednesday indicating it was highly improbable Plummer could have fired the gun police think is the murder weapon. The sudden reversal came two days after relatives and Black activists protested outside 23rd District Court.
